THE SCRIPTURES

  • We believe in the supernatural Inspiration and Infallible authority of the Scriptures, including both the Old and the New Testaments and accept the whole Bible as the Word of God and our final rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17

GOD

  • We believe the Scriptures reveal God as eternally existing and manifesting Himself in Three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit—One in essence and power. (2 Corinthians 13:14; John 16:5-13)

THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS WORK

  • We believe in the full deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ; His Virgin Birth; His sinless life; His substitutionary death on the cross for our sins; His physical resurrection from the grave; His ascension to the right hand of God where He forever lives to make intercession for believers; and His personal, visible, bodily return to the earth at the end of this age. (Romans 8:34)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, possessed of all the distinctive divine attributes. We believe He is the administrator of the things of God—convincing of sin, revealing truth, energizing believers in matters of prayer and service, and restraining evil “until He is taken out of the way.” (John 16:5-16)

MAN

  • We believe God created man in His own image and that man came into the world by direct creation of God that this creative act of God was separate and distinct from any other work of God. We believe the scriptural record of the fall of man through disobedience to God, and that by nature, man is “dead in trespasses and sins.” (Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:7)

SALVATION

  • We believe in the necessity of the new birth which comes only through faith in Jesus Christ; the maintenance of good works; the resurrection of the body; the reality and personality of Satan; the everlasting bliss of the saved and in the conscious, endless punishment of those who rejected the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. (John 3:3; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Corinthian 15; 1 Peter 5:8; Revelation 20:2; Revelation 20:11-15)

THE CHURCH AND ITS ORDINANCES

  • We believe a local church is a voluntary association of baptized believers, equal in rank and privilege, subject to the Word of Christ, and independent of any external ecclesiastical control. We believe God’s Word commands every believer (and only believers) to be baptized, and that the only Scriptural mode is by immersion. We believe the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper should be observed as Christ said, “in remembrance of Me”, (of His broken body and shed blood for us.) We do not believe that the supper has any sacramental virtue. (Acts 2:40-42)

SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE

  • We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Ps 139.)

MARRIAGE, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY

  • We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends and commands that sexual activity is to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4.)

  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27.)  Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

  • We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.  We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt 15:18-20; 1 Cor 6:9-10.)

  • We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11.)  We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Zion Baptist Church.  (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.)

Note- This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.
